Results of CSCW Supported Collaborative GIS Data Production: An Internet- based Solution
نویسنده
چکیده
The principles and technologies of computer supported cooperative work (CSCW) are increasingly integrated in many areas to support distributed collaborative production, especially with the rapid growth of the Internet and broadband network technologies. To achieve the improved efficiency and productivity, group processes and interaction must be properly addressed and the design of supporting computer systems must be thoroughly studied. These usually vary from one area to another depending on the understanding of the surroundings of the needed computer system through modeling its business environments. However, the documented work indicates little evidence of applying such an integrated solution to the challenges found in management of GIS data production. This paper summarizes the results of research and development towards Internet-based support of collaborative GIS data production, and discusses key issues in applying CSCW technologies in distributed GIS data production environments. The results indicate that GIS, Internet, Groupware, and Data Warehousing principles can be effectively brought together and applied to provide better solutions to real-world challenges associated with project management and quality control. The results also show that the integrated solutions can be used to effectively facilitate collaborative GIS data production processes in a distributed work environment if a “sound” collaboration model of the work environments is in place.

Social Collaboration Model Support for Collaborative 3d Gis Environment Based on Multi-agent Method
The existing 3D Geographical Information Systems (GIS) are confronting complex requirements when Internet-based technology is arising: the users need to share not only 3D data but also the same understanding of the work contexts and environments when they are geographically dispersed, so that they can collaboratively work together for a common goal. These kinds of requirements are usually seen ...

Support of collaborative work and management of spatio-temporal data has become one of the most interesting and important database applications, which is due to the tremendous progress of database and its surrounding technologies in the last decade. In this paper, we investigate the new generation database technologies that are needed to support such advanced applications. Because of the recent...

This paper presents a conceptual architecture and a new interface developed for collaborative teleoperation via Internet. This interface is based on a MAS (Multi-Agent System) devoted to collaboration. The MAS formalism is based on a new approach combining astutely two research area: MAS and CSCW (Computer Supported Collaborative Work). In the first area, a formal model of the MAS (Ferber appro...

This paper presents a conceptual model of an agent (called Collaborator Agent) intended to design collaborative software architectures based on multi-agent systems. The authors’ model combines astutely two research areas: Multi-Agent Systems (MAS) and Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW). The particularity of their approach is the division of the collaborative process into three spaces ac...
